To celebrate National Volunteering Week 2020 we are pleased to share a story from one of Comlink Australia’s Bundaberg volunteers. Bronwyn Sanders has been a volunteer driver for Comlink Australia for almost five years and she recently shared with us her love of volunteering and why she is so happy to be a part of the Comlink Australia family.

For over 30 years Bronwyn has been volunteering in a range of roles supporting the community and started her volunteer journey whilst living in Victoria. She has enjoyed volunteering at her children’s school, CWA, Red Cross, Meals on Wheels, Australian Wheelchair Tennis and more. She also has a passion for driving and she sure is proud to be a volunteer driver for Comlink Australia.

It keeps me young and whilst I’m fit and well, I will be doing this role for as long as I can. I can’t imagine a day when I won’t get to drive around our wonderful clients.

“When I moved to Bundaberg I knew I wanted to keep volunteering and serve the community and that’s when I found Comlink Australia and discovered I could combine my love of driving and volunteering into a meaningful community role,” Bronwyn shares.

The current COVID-19 situation has found many Comlink Australia volunteers diversify their roles to continue to support vulnerable clients in the community. Whilst Bronwyn is still offering her driving services, she has also taken on a new role by making weekly phone call welfare checks to clients who are isolating in their homes. “I’ve been chatting with around 15 clients a week and I love being able to offer this emotional support and I really find they are happy to confide in me with how they are feeling at this time,” said Bronwyn.

Bronwyn has a strong work ethic and has always been drawn to offering support to the community through volunteering. At 73 years young, Bronwyn is keen to continue her volunteer driver role with Comlink Australia for as long as she can, saying “It keeps me young and whilst I’m fit and well, I will be doing this role for as long as I can. I can’t imagine a day when I won’t get to drive around our wonderful clients.”
